Hi future host family! ??

My name is Tamia, and I’m from a small town in Germany. I’m currently attending business school and also working part-time in a traditional German bakery. I’m hoping to start my au pair adventure in June or July 2027, and I’m really excited about the idea of spending a year in the USA!

A little about me and my family

I live with my family and have three siblings, who are 7, 9 and 20 years old. My younger siblings have always been a big part of my life, and I’ve been helping take care of them for years.

I’m a creative, curious and open-minded person who loves trying new things, exploring new places and learning about the world. I enjoy spending time with other people, but I also appreciate having some time to myself.

My childcare experience

I completed three months of full-time volunteer work in a kindergarten, mainly working with children aged 3–6. During this time, I helped with everyday routines, meals, hygiene, creative activities, outdoor play and much more.

I also spent a few days helping in the nursery with children aged 1–2, which gave me some experience with younger children.

As part of my work in the kindergarten, I completed training in child safeguarding and abuse prevention. I’ve also completed a general first aid course.

Another special experience was participating in a two-year school buddy program. During the first year, I attended two hours of training every week, learning about communication, empathy, conflict resolution and supporting younger students. In the second year, I became a buddy for a fifth-grade class.

Outside of these experiences, I regularly take care of my younger brother and sister. We love playing games, baking, doing creative projects, going outside and planning little activities together. I also help with meals, homework and bedtime routines.

I occasionally look after my younger cousins as well.

Before starting my au pair year, I’m planning to gain even more practical experience with babies and toddlers through voluntary internships in nurseries during my school holidays.

My hobbies and interests

I have quite a few different interests!

I absolutely love being creative, especially drawing, sketching, detailed stone painting and making handmade things. I’m also currently learning how to crochet.

Another thing I really enjoy is baking and cooking. Since I work in a German bakery, I’ve become even more interested in traditional baking, and I’m currently learning how to make homemade German bread and other baked goods.

I also love being outdoors! I enjoy cycling, swimming, going on long walks with my dog Milo and exploring new places. I have the German Silver Swimming Badge and feel confident in the water.

I’m also really interested in psychology, especially children’s behavior, emotions and how they learn and develop. I find it fascinating how children see the world and how their personalities change as they grow.

Why I want to become an au pair

I really want to become an au pair because it brings together so many things I love!

I’ve grown up helping take care of my younger siblings, and I love spending time with kids, watching them grow up and seeing how excited they get about even the smallest things.

I’ve also always wanted to live in the USA, experience American holidays and traditions, explore new places and see what everyday life there is actually like.

I don’t just want to travel to America for a vacation. I want to experience what it’s like to really live there, become part of a family, make new friends, try lots of new things and hopefully make some amazing memories along the way!

What I’m looking for in a host family

I’m hoping to find a kind, welcoming family where we can communicate openly, respect each other and feel comfortable together.

I’d love to be included in family activities sometimes, whether that’s celebrating holidays, going on outings or simply spending time together. At the same time, having some independence and personal space is also really important to me. I’d love to explore my surroundings, meet other au pairs and build my own little life in the USA during my free time.

I don’t have one specific state in mind because I think there are so many amazing places in America, and I’m open to discovering somewhere completely new!

I would love to find a family that enjoys spending time outdoors, encourages their children to explore and learn, and appreciates creative activities and little adventures.

Most importantly, I want to build a good relationship with my host children, be someone they can trust and feel comfortable around, and make their everyday lives a little more fun.
