Introduction
Since 2011, I have tutored and been homework helper 1-on-1 off and on (for whatever reason, all my pupils have been boys or men), and between 2018-2025, I taught or co-taught classes ranging from 6 first-graders to 40+ college students, including coed classes.
In addition to English, I have helped adults with the basics of my other languages/general practice as well as general Japanese culture (my Japanese is really basic, but I lived and worked in Japan for nearly a decade, and I taught at one of the country's most prestigious institutions).
What students most like about me is that I take time to explain why tasks are necessary - I don't believe in "Because I told you so" - and I explain concepts in ways that are relatable to them, even using "Star Wars" or K-Pop analogies as necessary.
Ideally, I'd like to find a position similar to one I had in the past: I tutored and babysat a 7 year-old boy for a number of hours a month in exchange for an apartment, and received payment for additional worked hours. I cared for him and his cat when his parents were away as well, and cooked even if the parents were around but didn't have time.
