Introduction
Letter to the family
I am interested in becoming an au pair because caring for children has always been a natural part of my life. As the eldest child in my family, I grew up around younger cousins and family friends, and I have always enjoyed spending time with them and taking on a caring role. Over the years, people around me have often told me that I have a natural ability to connect with children, which is one of the reasons an au pair experience feels like such a good fit for me.
My experience as a camp counsellor and certified lifeguard has also taught me how to take responsibility for others while remaining attentive, patient, and engaged. Working with children in these environments has shown me that caring for them is not only about making sure they are safe, but also about creating an environment where they feel comfortable, included, and able to have fun. I have learned to be responsible when necessary while still knowing how to participate in their activities and meet them at their level.
My family has also influenced the way I approach childcare. My mother is an elementary school teacher, and I grew up watching her create activities that made learning enjoyable and engaging for my brother and me. I think this influenced my own approach to spending time with children, particularly my appreciation for creativity, play, and learning through everyday experiences.
I would like to bring these experiences into an au pair role while also becoming part of a new family and learning from the experience myself. I see being an au pair as an opportunity to take on real responsibility, build meaningful relationships with children, and experience family life in a different environment.
